Madeleine's right eyeThe family of missing 4-year-old English girl Madeleine McCann is circulating by e-mail a photo of her right eye (that's the one on your left as you look at her, more people get that confused than you might expect, including my wife). They believe that the distinctive mark below her pupil could help people recognise her, even if her hair has been cut or dyed. Most of you will know by now, but Madeleine disappeared in May from her room in an apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, while her parents were dining out nearby. She is believed to have been kidnapped. Read more and see the photo in higher resolution.

The search for Madeleine McCann has shifted to Spain more than once, but Portuguese police have said that they "are still convinced she is being held in Portugal."

If you do see a child you think might be Madeleine McCann, contact the police - any police, I should have thought, but the McCann's ask you to use these contacts:
   Portuguese Police on 00351 282 405 400
   Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
