Businessman Tomas Delgado knocked 17-year-old Enaitz Iriondo off his bike and killed him in 2004. He is now suing the dead teenager's family for €20,000 for damage suffered by his Audi A8 and the inconvenience of having to rent a car, El País reports. Delgado was speeding and almost certainly over the alcohol limit at the time of the accident, which occurred outside a campsite in La Rioja. More of this story.

The family has been compensated by Delgado's insurance company, which recognised that Delgado had been speeding. Unfortunately for Iriondos, the criminal case against Delgado was dismissed, as the judge did not see indications of negligence on his part. Delgado's illegal blood alcohol level was not taken into account, as he claimed that immediately after the accident he had asked "if someone could bring me a whiskey and coke," because he was nervous.

Delgado's suit against the Iriondos will be heard on January 30th.

A TV documentary (in Spanish) about the story can be seen on YouTube - run a search on "Enaitz Iriondo".
