Ayuntamiento de Hacinas

Small town in the south-east of the province of Burgos, well known for its fiestas, including an extravegant carnival. Hacinas is known, among other things, for the "fossil trees" dotted about the place, the first of which was discovered in 1976. They are about 120 million years old, so don't go carving your initials on them.

Sierra de la Demanda

The beautiful Sierra de la Demanda mountain range separates Burgos from La Rioja. Large-scale hunting takes place there, with the consequent abundance of game on restaurant menus. The Sierra de la Demanda is dotted with reservoirs, especially attractive in autumn, and a visit will usually take in a number of historic monasteries as well.
