Peñiscola is one of the most idiosyncratic resorts in Spain, with its old town within the walls of a historic castle on a promontory jutting into the Mediterranean, a castle so impressive it served to represent the entire city of Valencia in the 1961 Anthony Mann epic El Cid, starring Charlton Heston. The municipal website linked to above feels instead like a tourist information site, not that there is anything wrong with that.
