Parque Natural del Alto Tajo 

The Upper Tagus Nature Reserve lies in the south-eastern corner of Guadalajara province, though it spills over into the north-eastern tip of Cuenca. It has been a protected area since 2000, and is particularly important for its system of river gorges, though it has "most of the characteristics of the Cordillera Iberica." The variety of its ecological environments provides a corresponding variety of habitats for fauna, and the park holds nearly 200 species of vertebrates, of which 129 are listed as Threatened. The park was damaged, badly but fortunately not too extensively, by the forest fire set off by careless barbecuers in Riba de Saelices in July, 2005, which killed eleven firefighters.
