Madrid Zoo-Aquarium
One of the most important zoos in the world, for many reasons including its conservation work, Madrid Zoo has 6,000 examples of 500 species. Its origins lie in the Casa de Fieras founded in 1760 by Spain's Charles III in the Retiro, though in its present form in the Casa de Campo it was inaugurated in 1972.Added on: 13-Sep-2006 | hits: 75

Parque de Atracciones
Madrid's amusement park, in the south of the Casa de Campo, is as diverting as most. I find it weird, though financially explicable, that "Adult" here means anyone over the age of six.Added on: 13-Sep-2006 | hits: 81

Teleférico de Madrid
The Casa del Campo is often described as Madrid's lung, in spite of its less than central position. It is enormous, a former royal hunting estate which even now is more countryside than park. It contains Madrid Zoo (and aquarium), the Parque de Atracciones (amusement park), the Rockodromo (open-air concert hall, an artificial lake and more, and without a map you could spend all day walking around it without coming across any of these things. It was one of the more active fronts during the siege of Madrid in the Spanish Civil War, and you can still see pill boxes and similar fortifications and even stumble across cartridge shells and the like. This link goes to the website of the teleférico, the cable car which runs from the Paseo del Pintor Rosales near the Plaza de España into the heart of the Casa del Campo, providing fabulous views over Madrid.Added on: 29-Jul-2005 | hits: 214
