Tree of Guernica

Symbol of the permanence and liberty of the people of Vizcaya and, by extension, of the Basques, under the shade of which the Lords of Biscay swore to respect the traditional freedoms of the Biscaynes and where the modern Lehendakari, Basque president, pronounces his inaugural oath. It stands in front of the Casa de Juntas, the Biscayne parliament (or, rather, the house of parliament stands behind it, being newer). It is an oak and does, naturally, die from time to time, most recently in 2004, though the present one planted in February 2005 doesn't look particularly new, as a number of spares are kept, grown from the tree's acorns, illustrating the importance of foresight in myth exploitation.
