José Méndez

Singer unknown to me, based in Jeréz de la Frontera. Nice samples.

Falete

One of the strangest phenomena to appear in the flamenco world ever, in my opinion at least, Falete has cornered a previously unknown market: gay flamenco. Which doesn't mean he can't sing, he can, and very well, too, but he strays too far over into the histrionics of copla to be taken seriously as a flamenco artiste.

Estrella Morente

Daughter of Enrique, Estrella Morente is a traditionalist in spite of her youthful image.

Enrique Morente

In spite of the fact that he is generally considered orthodox in comparison to Camarón de la Isla, Es Flamenco describes Morente as "one of the great revolutionaries of flamenco."

David Lagos

One of flamenco's most popular performers, a representative of the Jeréz school of flamenco. I could be mistaken, but I don't think he has recorded yet.

Camarón de la Isla

Camarón de la Isla was nicknamed "the Mick Jagger from Cádiz," which in terms of stature is fair enough, but I feel a more fitting comparison is with Jim Morrison. Original name José Monje Cruz, he died tragically in 1992 at the age of 41, after a short, hard lifetime in which he established himself not just as one of the most potent, influential flamenco singers of recent times, but as the voice of the gypsies and other underdogs of Spain. Inexplicably, there is no official website for Camarón, but these pages from Flamenco World very nearly fill that void.

Arcangel

One of flamenco song's youngest figuras, Arcangel works regularly with Eva la Yerbabuena and has accompanied Cristina Hoyos and Belém Maya. I still think it's a duff name.
