CM Arraiolos

A vila so small as to be really a village, Arraiolos is famous for its hand-made carpets, rugs and tapestries (I have read that "The long-armed cross-stitch is the basis of the technique used in making these carpets," if that means anything to you - a "long-armed cross-stitch" sounds like a martial arts move to me). It has a castle where top-notch concerts and exhibitions are held, a couple of nice churches and a 16th-century monastery which has been converted into a pousada, "surrounded by cooling streams," where "the silence is only interrupted by flocks of sheep passing by." The link goes to its municipal website, in Portuguese only, of course.
