In the north-east of the province of Barcelona, 50 kilometres from both the provincial capital and the city of Girona, Calella claims to be "the Tourist Capital of the Maresme Coast." It has a small but attractive historic centre, and "three kilometres of beach and magnificent natural rocky coves, one of which is a naturist beach," an ample supply of mainly 3-star hotels, and is in general the local centre of activity.
