Cofradía de la Viña y el Vino de Montilla

This is one of those gems that used to make the Internet such a joy when it was young and less professional than nowadays. For the Brotherhood of the Vine and Wine of Montilla is, essentially, exactly the kind of joke it sounds like when translated into English, a group of Montilla wine enthusiasts who treat the object of their devotion with tongue-in-cheek veneration, and a very cultured tongue, at that - the Brotherhood's "anthem" is In Taberna Quando Sumus (When We Are In the Tavern) from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. Gorgeous. The website is only available in Spanish, and I'm really sorry about that.

Consejo Regulador Montilla-Moriles

The Sierra de Montilla and the hills of Moriles lie south of Córdoba and the Guadalquivir. Sherry-like wine is made there, with the same names as sherry: fino, amontillado, oloroso and vino joven ("young" wine), as well as the sweet Pedro Ximénez which was first made there from the grape variety of the same name. The wine-making area includes the towns of Montilla and Moriles, evidently, Puente Genil and a number of other places of interest to visitors.

Emontilla

Montilla guide and directory from a Montilla-based Internet design outfit. The most interesting stuff is in the menu on the right under "Guided Tours" (once you have reached the English-language pages).

Montilla

Montilla is a pleasant little place (not that little, over 23,000 inhabitants) in the hills south of the city of Córdoba, which would be worth stopping to look round even if it were not so important in the wine D.O. Montilla-Moriles. Wine apart, its main claim to fame is as the birthplace of Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba y Aguilar, the Gran Capitán, the Great Captain, a great Spanish solidier in the times of Isabel and Fernando, the Catholic Monarchs. The historic centre of Morilla is of great interest, crammed with churches, and there is a castle which used to house a wine museum which seems to have disappeared.

Moriles

Moriles is much smaller than Montilla (less than 4,000 inhabitants), so it is no surprise to find that the language links on this municipal website do not actually work. Never mind, there is not really a lot to be said about Moriles, a pleasant enough little place in some pleasant enough countryside.

Puente Genil

Puente Genil is the largest town in the Montilla-Moriles wine-producing area, its nearly 29,000 inhabitants making it larger even than Montilla. It is also one of the most interesting places to visit, having an attractive 18th-century bridge and a number of old churches and being overlooked by a castle which was the site of the Battle of Arnizol in the 12th century. The link goes to the Spanish-only municipal website.

Puente Genil, por Juan Crespo

Splendid though Spanish-only personal website dedicated to Puente Genil, its history, heritage, fiestas, and quite a lot more.
