D.O. Ribera del Guadiana
New (1997) wine denominación de origen, straddling the Extremaduran provinces of Badajoz and Cáceres, though more vines are grown on the south (Badajoz) bank of the River Guadiana. It produces acceptable but not especially remarkable wine, of far better quality than before the D.O. was founded, and some of the grape varieties used are authochthonous to the region of Extredmadura, not even being found in the rest of Spain. This is not surprising - Extremadura's climate is more continental than elsewhere in the country, where the climate in most places is moderated by a Mediterranean or Cantabrian influence. In fact, Extremadura's climate can be even harsher than that of Castile and León. When the weather permits, however, it is an attractive area, the northern part, especially, including sierras where ham production is another attraction.Added on: 13-Nov-2007 | hits: 121
