Ycoden-Daute-Isora

This triple-barrelled name had me puzzled, as the first two words do not correspond to a present-day place, until I read the explanation on the web site linked to above, the home of the regulatory board of the Ycoden-Daute-Isora denominación de origen. Ycoden and Daute were two menceyatos, kingdoms, in the times of the pre-Spanish, probably Berber settlers of the Canary Islands, the Guanches, while Isora was a Guanche princess. Anyway, Ycoden-Daute-Isora is a wine region occupying the north-west of Tenerife, its municipalities being San Juan de La Rambla, La Guancha, Icod de Los Vinos, Garachico, El Tanque, Los Silos, Buenavista del Norte, Santiago del Teide and Guia de Isora. It produces interesting white and rosé wine, mainly from the white Listán (Palomino) grape variety, and a more ordinary but still interesting "young" red wine, also mainly from the red Listán grape. A small amount of dessert wine is also produced.
