DO Montsant

Though new (2003) as a separate denominació d'origen, Montsant wine is far from new, it previously having been a subzone of the DO Tarragona. It produces quality wine and exports a very high proportion of the total, something like three-quarters.

Falset

Though small (population about 2,500), Falset is the most important place in the Priorat wine-making region and also the capital of the newer Montsant DO (which more or less surrounds the former). It has a castle and a couple of palaces, and would be a natural base to choose if you wanted to spend a day or two touring the two wine regions and the Sierra de Montsat in which they are set.
