Link profile: Ayuntamiento de Valdepeñas

Category: Start / Spain and its Regions / New Castile (Castilla-La Mancha) / Ciudad Real / Valdepeñas
Valdepeñas is the most important town in La Mancha, its significance lying in its wine - it produces more than any other wine region in Spain. Much of it is plonk or worse, being sold off in bulk to French or Italian winemakers who mix it with better brews and sell it as Eurowine or even pass it off as from their own country. But great strides have been made in recent years and some of the produce is excellent or at least very good, and superb value for money. It has little other interest for visitors, unless you have a windmill fixation: this municipal site maintains that the Molino de Gregorio Prieto is the largest windmill in Europe, and the Windmill Museum is one of the town's most important attractions.
