Link profile: CM Belmonte

Category: Start / Portugal and its Regions / Centro / Beira Alta / Belmonte
Birthplace of Pedro Álvares Cabral, discoverer of Brazil, Belmonte is a mountain village "of considerable charm," according to my tattered Rough Guide. It has a thirteenth-century castle (not to be confused with the castle of the same name in Cuenca, Spain, which is sometimes used as a film set) and the Convento de Nossa Senhora da Esperança, converted into a pousada. The link goes to its municipal website, in Portuguese with a little information in French and Spanish but not, disappointingly, English.
