Link profile: Montilla

Category: Start / Spain and its Regions / Andalusia / Córdoba / Montilla-Moriles
Montilla is a pleasant little place (not that little, over 23,000 inhabitants) in the hills south of the city of Córdoba, which would be worth stopping to look round even if it were not so important in the wine D.O. Montilla-Moriles. Wine apart, its main claim to fame is as the birthplace of Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba y Aguilar, the Gran Capitán, the Great Captain, a great Spanish solidier in the times of Isabel and Fernando, the Catholic Monarchs. The historic centre of Morilla is of great interest, crammed with churches, and there is a castle which used to house a wine museum which seems to have disappeared.
