Link profile: D.O. Rias Baixas

Category: Start / Spain and its Regions / Galicia / Pontevedra
The Rias Baixas are a series of estuaries (firths, in fact) on the west-facing coast of the province of La Coruña and Pontevedra (they are called "Baixas" to distinguish them from the Rías Altas, the series of estuaries on the north-facing coast of La Coruña and Lugo). It is a lovely area to visit, though here we are looking at the Rias Baixas as denominación de origen, wine-making region, limited to Pontevedra. It has been a wine-producing region for hundreds of years (which surprises many, given Galicia's reputation for raininess), where some red wine but most traditionally white wine is made, particularly notable being the Albariño made from the grape variety of the same name.
