Link profile: Turismo do Alentejo

Category: Start / Portugal and its Regions / Alentejo
The second largest of Portugal's five mainland regions is, essentially an enormous plain (though less monotonous than Spain's La Mancha). Its northern subregions, Portalegre or the Alentejo Alto and Evora or Alentejo Central, are most gratifying for visitors, with delightful old towns and villages, its western region, Alentejo Litoral, offers some of the least known beach areas in the country, and its southern subregion, Beja or Baixo Alentejo, is almost entirely agricultural, fields of cereals as far as the eye can see, to the extent that it is considered Portugal's "bread basket." The link goes to the web site of the regional tourist board, Turismo do Alentejo.
