Baiona (Bayona el Real in Spanish) is a historic port turned resort about twenty miles south-west of Vigo. "Historic" is almost too small a word, though the only important trace left is the imposing Castle of Monte Real, which guards the entrance to the Ría de Vigo and is now a parador. The event they are proudest of here is the landing in Europe of the caravel "Pinta" on its return from the discovery of America.
