S'Arenal

A half-an-hour's bus ride away from the centre of Palma, Arenal was one of the first places on Majorca to be developed for mass tourism and consequently is generally acknowledged to be one of the least attractive places on the island. But its down-marketness means there are some unbelievable accommodation bargains to be had here. Also, money has been spent doing it up, the beach is great, and the nightlife as lively as anyone could want. If you run a Google search on "Mallorca Arenal," practically all the results returned are German sites: there is a reason for this, and anyone expecting English food like paella and chips will be disappointed. And bear in mind that Playa/Platja de Palma and S'Arenal are really the same place: hoteliers prefer the former.
