Advance Passenger Information Requirements

From June 1st, 2008, API, advance passenger information, will no longer be accepted at UK departure airports. This means you must either supply the information when you book or use your airline's website to do so at least 4 hours in advance. The Spanish government has required API for all air travellers to Spain since June 1st, 2007. The advance passenger information requirement applies to the whole of Spain, including the Canary Islands.

Advance passenger information is a security and border control measure. API essentially means your passport information, including:
* passport or travel document number
* travel document type
* given names (as they appear on the passport)
* last name
* date of birth
* nationality
* issuing state

The following may also be required:
* country of residence
* gender

Ryanair says that "any passenger who fails to provide this important information at the time of original booking or prior to arrival at the departure airport will not be allowed to check-in and will forfeit their booking without refund."

Ryanair’s Lorna Farren made this statement: “Ryanair regrets any inconvenience these Spanish government APIS requirements may cause, however it is the responsibility of every passenger travelling from the UK/ Ireland to Spain submit passport or National ID data at the time of original booking or at least 4 hours prior to their flights on Ryanair.com. We strongly advise all passengers travelling to Spain to submit their APIS data and thereby avoid any risk of being denied check-in.”

having booked 2 flights to alicante for this september with ryanair from stanstead i find that their web site will not accept my "add api details"..i have put in my confirmation no. and email address which i booked with and recieved conformation on . also my destination and departure airports. it just keeps saying that thase details do not match our records and therefore i can not add the required details...ie. passport number etc. i have tried to contact ryanair by phone to no avail at £1.00 a min. has anyone else had this problem and if so how did they get the info.(which is supposedly compulsory) to ryanair. is ther an obtainable phone number where you can get to explain the problem to someone ? i am at my wits end with frustration over this and do not want to get to the airport and be refused boarding because i have not given this info. i would be gratefull for any help...PLEASE !!!

Bummer, Bob, you have my sympathy. Ryanair offers local phone numbers from their "Manage Your Booking" page, which you are supposed to ring to change information for indiividual passengers (rather than an entire booking, in this case for 2 people). You must have been to the "Manage Your Booking" page, I'll just remind you that it is here:

https://www.bookryanair.com/SkySales/FRManageBooking.aspx?culture=EN-GB&pos=SBFORM

Click "Reservation Centre" to open a table of phone numbers with their timetables (they say the cost is 10 p a minute for a UK call).

Good luck!
