Hi
Yesterday I purchased two tickets for Barcelona to Madrid @ €40.55 each, which represents fantastic value for money.
I am a bit confused, though by the validation process mentioned. Since I printed out the tickets on ordinary printer paper - the resolution is fine, but the tickets cannot be entered into a machine for validation, if this is needed. The website doesn't make it clear what tickets must be validated using machine.
If anyone has any experience of using paper tickets, and whether validation has to be done, I'd be pleased to hear it.
I've only travelled in Italy & Germany before, and that ws using conventional card tickets - i do remewmber validating the tickets in Italy before boarding the train.

Hi Stew,
You have printed your ticket out from a pdf file. You won't need to pass it through a machine, apparently, but it does come with a barcode (I have this from RENFE Internet sales information - 902 15 75 07 if you want to check). So I think the inspectors must carry one of those hand-held barcode readers, which would mean you do need to carry the printed ticket with you. I'd be grateful for more feedback on this, as I haven't used a long-distance train myself since RENFE changed its ticket/pricing policies at the end of last year, so please let me know how things go.
