Hi,
My boyfriend and I are to stay in Madrid in the first week in October but really want to stay in a hotel with a balcony. Not just any hotel with a balcony, but a hotel that has character, not new built, and architectually beautiful, in a kind of run down way, with a balcony that we can lean over to watch the streets below and be all romantic together i.e. have wine and olives and admire the sunsets. It doesn't have to be in a 'nice' area- just an area that will amuse us with the antics of locals will do! Oh, and as he's just finished medical school and i'm a therapist, it needs to be on the cheap side say around 27-37 euros...can you help me?

I'm pretty sure I could find you something like what you have in mind, though not as economical as that. But before I do anything in the way of looking around, I'm going to insist that you at least sign your messages (and preferably sign up - it doesn't cost anything): that way people (especially me) know who they are talking to.
And purely out of curiosity, when you say you are a therapist, is that as in "physio-" or "psycho-" or "speech", or what? It really doesn't matter, but it has piqued my linguistic interest - what does someone refer to nowadays when they use the word "therapist" in English without a qualifier?

Dear Mr Ross,
Thank you for your reply. I have duly registerd- quite frankly i wasn't too sure if i would get a response from such a wofty request- it felt like a last ditch attempt after days of searching, and you will have to forgive my restrain from registering on, as yet, an unknown site!
As for the second part of your enquiry, I am what is known in the trade as an Occupational Therapist! I can't remember why i dropped the "occupational" part from my title in the email to you- i suppose i felt it was a bridge too far (most people don't know what we do and that's the people who work beside us everyday, besides i think i had just randomly admitted alot of personal information to the internet galaxy!) So i apologies, instead of making it easier for you to understand, i have further assisted in keeping my profession a closely guarded secret and intrigued you with ponderings of my 'therapy' work- pheww and all i wanted was somewhere romantic to stay in Madrid!
So, if you can help i would be so grateful, we are both working in different hospitals in Scotland and have focused all our limited free time on making this a memorable short-break.
Regards,
Juliet

I'm terribly sorry about this, Juliet, but the fact is I've had other commitments in the last week, so I haven't had time to think about your hotel with balcony and I'm not sure when I will have. As your time is getting short, I expect you've been looking at other options, but just in case I think I'd better say clearly that you shouldn't depend on me (and call me John). But let me know if you are really stuck.

Dear John,
Thank you for your reply. We were holding out to see if you had any specific ideas but feel happy with our groundwork. Malcolm has identified some potentials and i used your recommended list too, so between us i am sure we will find something suitable. We are both looking foward to Madrid so much, using your site, the internet, Time Out and Rough Guide has enabled us to cover alot of ground prior to getting away- we will have a busy week trying to fit in everything!
Thank you once again for your responses- it sounds like you have been busy too!
Best Regards,
Juliet and Malcolm
