Portuguese Course in Lisbon

Anonymous Posted: 30.07.2004, 15:02
Unregistered User My company is posting me to Brazil, and I was thinking of doing an intensive Portuguese course in Lisbon before being sent, but a friend of mine told me Portuguese Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese are quite different. Is it worth my while to do the course?

I would say yes, do it, but be prepared for the change. Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese are very different, especially in terms of pronunciation, but if you are a beginner it shouldn't matter all that much -- I mean, the basic stuff is more or less the same, it's later on that you will find the two diverging. Most people find Brazilian a little easier to understand than Portuguese Portuguese, as well, so if you start with the difficult version, you might find it easier later.
