Never stayed there, but it's in calle Leganitos, which runs off the Plaza de Espa?a almost parallel to the Gran V?a and used to be a very tiny bit dodgy but I'm pretty sure isn't any more - I never think twice about walking along it, at least (without getting paranoid, you do need to be normally careful anywhere in the city centre, though. Pickpockets, especially abound - see this article for more information). The Coloso is just around the corner from the Senate, "occupies the residence of Ventura Rodr?guez, a distinguished Madrid city hall architect in the 19th century," is conveniently located for most things you might want to see, and is available through Venere, one of my hotel booking partners, so if you book it by clicking this link, for example, you might find you get a better rate and I would get a tiny bit of commission (not that I want to twist your arm, at all).
