Hotels, hostals and pensions in Madrid. This list only includes establishments with a web presence. Unless otherwise stated, their inclusion here does not represent any endorsement by me, nor can I guarantee that the information and prices shown are always up to date.

If your establishment has a web page and you think it should be included on this list, drop me an e-mail.

One-star accommodation (or less). Hotels, hostals, hostal residencias (which are the same as hostals but without a cafetería or other place where you can eat), self-catering accommodation and pensions. Almost all the one-star accommodation in Madrid is to be found in the historic centre, east of the Paseo del Prado, around the Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor or Gran Vía or in Chueca. Inevitably, parts of these areas are a bit seedy, but the establishments themselves are almost always acceptable, as long as you are not expecting luxury.

Hostal Adriano
A newly refurbished, well priced establishment in the central, run-down Calle de la Cruz, with some interesting offers, including free Internet access and use of a kitchen.

Hostal Alistana
Quite a nicely put-together page for this unclassified hostal.

Pensión Antonio
Very economical, in a likeable, central area. Looks like a good bet if you do not mind sharing a bathroom.

Hostal Bruña
Dreadful web page that takes ages to load, for no apparent reason. The hostal is near the Paseo del Prado.

Hostal Chelo
This hostal is in Calle Hortaleza, near the Gran Vía and next to the district of Chueca, much frequented by Madrid's gay community. Antonio, its manager, has pointed out to me, among other things, that all rooms here have private bathroom and TV.

Hostal Dominguez
Near the Glorieta de Bilbao, an old commercial centre of Madrid. This web page is quite well put together, which deserves credit.

Hotel Europa
Friends of mine have used this and been very pleased with it indeed. Comfortable, reasonably priced (remember it is a hotel, not a hostal) and right next to the Puerta del Sol.

Hostal Horizonte
I assume this is a one-star place - none are mentioned and it is not listed in the official Hotel Guide. That is no reason for it not to be acceptable, though, and its prices are low and its location in Calle Atocha is convenient, especially for Madrid's museums.
