The standard of budget lodgings varies enormously in Portugal
and, if possible, it is always advisable to ask to see the
room beforehand. Unfortunately, the number of stars a place
has is not always a great deal of help, as these are given
by each local authority according to its own criteria.
Most of the cheap lodgings in Lisbon are to be found in the
Baixa, Bairro Alto or around the Marqués de Pombal
square. Only establishments with a web presence are listed.
If your establishment has a web page and you think it should
be included on this list, drop me an e-mail.
The inclusion of an establishment on this page does not
imply any endorsement or recommendation by me.
Residência
Alicante
A respectable-looking place near Marqués de Pombal
square. No price information.
Pensão
Casa Vila Nova
A garish page and with no price information for an unattractive
looking, not especially well located pension.
Pensão
Estoril
When they say it is "strategically located," they
mean a little out of the centre, but good for the airport.
It looks fine and its prices are very reasonable.
Residencial
Florescente
A frankly weird name for what looks like a rather pleasant
pension in a pedestrian, or as they say here, "walking
street, where you can strool." Lovely word, is it not?
Makes you want to sing that classic Neil Sedaka line, "Strooling
along country roads with my baby..." Very well located,
but no price information is given.
Residencia
Imperador
On the wrong side of Marqués de Pombal, but nice looking,
well communicated and with good prices.
Albergaria
Insulana
I suppose there are people who book a hotel without knowing
the price, but I do not think they would stay here. Otherwise,
the place looks fine and is well located.
Pensão
Lar do Areeiro
Quite a swish-looking pension, on the way out to the airport.
Its prices are very reasonable if they are up to date.
Pensão
Londres
Joy. I adore this kind of use of the English language: "Do
not negleting their clients and all that desires to visit
Lisbon and our pension, keeping up to the evolution of new
tecnologies and, namely, through the, now called, 'highways
of information, the pension Londres puts in disposition of
you all, their most required services." A nice-looking
pension in the Bairro Alto, and with the same reasonable price
all year round, on the grounds that "don`t exist low,
medium and high seasons."
Family
Macedo
A private B&B, which I would not normally include, these
establishments being to the best of my knowledge unregulated
in Portugal. However, this place advertises that you can "Sleep
in a old royal bed!"
Pensão
Marisela
There are no prices given on this page, but there are videos
of a kind and the invitation to " Experiment our water
matresses."
Pensão
Olhos Pretos
I do not really know where this pension is, as I cannot make
head nor tail of the map. No prices given, either.
Residencia
Pombulense
Portuguese only, which matters not a jot as there is a
total absence of information other than the address and telephone
number.
Residencial
Saldanha
A cheerful site for a very economical pension. There are a
few nice photos inside.
Residencial
Do Sul
A shoddy web page for a pension in the Rossio. A few nice
photos and no price information.
