Costa Azul is the name given to the coast south of Lisbon and that of the Alentejo, running down towards the Algarve. It includes Costa de Caparica, a major resort popular with Lisbon residents, though far less known to the rest of the world. In a sheltered estuary, you find the historic city of Setúbal, the third-largest in Portugal, and the Parque Natural da Arrábida, is here, too, in the shelter of an estuary. A number of fishing villages like Sesimbra have retained their working atmosphere and charm, while the beaches compare favourably with the overcrowded Algarve. The only real blight is the industrial awfulness of Sines.

Costa Azul
From the Costa Azul tourist board, a nice site with all you could expect: descriptions of the local beaches, facilities and so on, an accommodation search tool (no reservation service), a campsite finder, and what they call an "animation" search engine, which lets you find organized things to do, such as diving, balloon flights, cycling excursions...

Costa Azul - a Riding Tour
Included solely because it looks like a good idea.

Porto Covo
A bright and jolly site for this unassuming village resort near what are said to be some of the best beaches in Portugal.

Porto Covo
A nicely designed site, though only the first page is in English. The best it offers is its page on the local beaches.

Sesimbra
A rather breathless description of this charming fishing village, from a hotel.

Sesimbra
A Portuguese-only personal web page, but the glorious photos speak for themselves. Lovely.

Vila Nova de Milfontes
Now one of the more popular and developed resorts in this part of the world, it is still an attractive place. Given its popularity with foreigners, it is strange that this site is in Portuguese only, but you can select "Fotos" or "Fotos a 360º" for some nice images.

Zambujeira do Mar
This little place in the south of the Alentejo, nearly in the Algarve, is said to have one of the best beaches in Portugal. It is also the site of a three-day rock festival at the beginning of August. Given the size of the place, it is not surprising that this site is in Portuguese only.
