Mediterranean Blue

The Costa de Almería is to a large extent undiscovered by mass tourism. It has good, if pebbly beaches, lovely villages, the "Cabo de Gata" nature reserve and the added attraction of the lunar landscape of inland Almería.

Selected Links

Almeria - from Altur
This page gives you information on seven different localities on the Costa de Almeria. The "Lodgings" button works, the others do not.

Almeriainthesun.com
A good, broad view of Almería from a villa-rental company. The maps are not bad, either.

Cabo de Gata
The Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park or nature reserve is an unspoilt peninsula, with sand dunes and salt pans. It does get quite a lot of visitors in summer, though, especially people who like to get away from it all, including nudists, as well as divers and windsurfers.

Carboneras - from Altur
The old mining/fishing village of Carboneras is now a quiet resort catering to a mainly Spanish clientele. Its greatest attraction is its setting.

Costa Almería - from Andalusia.com
Andalusia.com's impeccable introduction to the Costa de Almería.

Costa Almería - from JMC
An interesting, though jittery webpage from a company selling airline tickets. If they could only program it not to be so hard on the eyes...

Costa de Almeria - from TourSpain
A flawless, if uninspiring description of the attractions of the Costa de Almería from the Spanish Tourist Board's on-line guide.

Mojacar
A thoroughly entertaining site dedicated to the fishing-village-turned-resort of Mojacar, from a web company which Spain and Portugal wishes long life and many clients.

Mojacar - from Andalusia.com
A brief but enticing description of this village of Almería where Walt Disney is supposed to have been born.

Mojacar - from RealHolidayGuides.com
Brief but honest description of Mojacar, including both its good and bad points.

Roquetas del Mar - Camping Roquetas
An enthusiastic presentation of Roquetas from a campsite, perversely called a "camping" in Spanish.

Tabernas - from Andalusia.com
The main interest of Tabernas lies in the desert landscape, canyons and sunshine that made it ideal for shooting a number of important westerns in the nineteen-sixties, including legendary titles such as "A Fistful of Dollars." Later, these sets were used for the Indiana Jones series. Rebaptised "Mini-Hollywood," they are now a tourist attraction.

Roquetas de Mar
A brief description of the popular resort of Roquetas from Altur - click on "Lodgings" for a list of accommodations, complete with reservation service.

Roquetas.net
Spanish-only, in spite of the Union Jacks you may see here and there, with some nice photographs of this thriving resort.
