Castellón,
Costa del Azahar - from Tourspain
An overview of the Costa del Azahar, giving you an idea of
the different options open to you.
Costa
del Azahar - from the Provincial Tourist Board
Spanish-only, but the opening animation is nice and will give
you an impression of the attractions of the area.
Alcossebre
- from costamediterranea.com
This can be confusing. Alcalá de Chivert (Alcalá de Xivert)
and Alcocéber (Alcossebre) are practically the same place,
and a good choice for those looking for somewhere comfortable
and attractive, but not too exciting. This is a good guide
from costamediterranea.com, the only fault being there is
no English-language version, but there are plenty of photos
if you dig around.
Alcossebre
- from costaazahar.com
Nearly a brave attempt, but whoever wrote this needs an awful
lot of English classes. The icons at the top do not work,
either, though the tags, even though they are in Spanish,
connect to pages in English.
Benicarló
A good tourist guide from the town council of this popular
resort. No, excellent, for a town with a population of 20,000.
Benicarló
Photos
Surprisingly varied photographs from a Spanish-only portal.
Benicassím
- from costamediterranea.com
Benicassim is a rather nice resort and it is surprising more
information is not to be found on the web. This Spanish-only
page, again from costamediterranea, might give you an idea.
Oropesa
del Mar - from costaazahara.com
Oropesa is sometimes described as a "typical Mediterranean
town," which is not as easy to find in Spain as you might
think. Ploughing through the English here is like trying to
chew after a dental anaesthetic, but it will give you an idea.
Peñiscola
Peñiscola is a gorgeous mediaeval walled town built on a promontory.
In the fourteenth century, its castle was the stronghold of
the antipope Pedro de Luna, Benedict XIII. It was used to
represent Valencia in the film "El Cid" (yes, the one with
Charlton Heston). It has a thriving tourist industry, its
hotel-backed beach running almost unbrokenly up to Benicarló.
This is the Spanish-only municipal site, with photos.
Peñiscola
- by Chris Meek
Photographs of Peñiscola by a Microsoft researcher. We will
not hold that against him.
Peñiscola
- from Valencia Life
An article from an English-language magazine, with a very
good description of Peñiscola, especially its castle with
its mixture of Moorish and Christian architecture.
Vinaròs
Vinaròs, the northernmost resort on the Costa Azahara, as
described by a real-estate development company. Vinaròs is
still a working fishing port and is famous for the quality
of its seafood.
