The Costa de Prata, capital Coimbra, is the coast of the Beira Litoral, between Lisbon and Oporto. It has long, sandy beaches, rather exposed and windswept (making it attractive to windsurfers) and beautiful towns and villages inland.

Links

Central Tourist Region of Portugal
The central region is centred on Coimbra. This official tourist board site has a tremendous amount of information about both the coast and inland, as well as a very helpful accommodation guide.

Coimbra - Photos
Photos of the historic university town of Coimbra, taken by one Galen R. Frysinger (now there's a name to be proud of), who has visited 154 countries. He is, apparently, retired, which is not surprising, as he must be worn out.

Costa de Prata - from Portugal-info
The most interesting feature here are the links related with the various towns, including Aveiro, Batalha, Fátima and Coimbra itself.

Costa de Prata
Virtual Portugal's guide to the Costa de Prata, the long stretch of coastline between Lisbon and Porto.

Costa de Prata
A quite good, to-the-point description, from a company selling holiday homes.

Figueira da Foz
This city on the coast of Coimbra has the largest beach in Portugal, nearly two kilometres long, and is an important centre of tourism. This is a garish site, with not a great deal of information, but a goodly number of attractive photos.

Figueira da Foz - Figueira Net
Although cluttered with advertising, this site has some general information lacking in its competitor above, though it is less helpful with regard to practicalities like lodgings. The antique photographs are nice.

Hotels
Hotel Club
This booking service covers a very wide range of places in both Spain and Portugal.

Venere.com
An on-line booking service with great discounts.

Car Hire
Auto Europe
Car rental, motor homes, minibuses... And an interesting short-term lease option.
