Seville
is not especially problematic in terms of accommodation, though
there is a definite shortage of top-end establishments, and
at certain times of year Semana Santa (Easter), the Feria
de Abril (April Fair) finding a room can be well nigh
impossible. The rest of the time, however (and note that July
and, especially, August are low season in Seville), lodgings
are relatively plentiful and you can even find some outstanding
bargains, such as the Hotel Inglaterra. The five-star hotels
on this page offer the maximum of luxury and comfort, often
at very reasonable prices, but booking ahead is advisable for
all of them.

Seville's most classic
establishment and one of the great hotels in Europe,
built in 1928 and decorated in sumptuous Moorish
style, with prices to match. Note that for Semana
Santa (Easter) and the Feria de Abril
(April Fair) you may need to book for several nights
and pay in full in advance. The hotel's website
gives a good feel of the place, though its prices
are in general slightly higher than those quoted
by Hotel
Club, so it is worth comparing. The hotel blurb
includes: "In the vicinity
of the Cathedral... close to the Torre del Oro,
the Barrio de Santa Cruz and the Alcazar Palace...
Moorish tradition is painstakingly restored in the
beautiful courtyard of wrought iron balconies, hanging
plants, hand fashioned tiles and fountain centrepiece.
The 146 guest rooms are lavish and the lobby, with
its priceless tapestries and Iberian antiques, is
a page of Spanish history."

The newest of Seville's
five-stars, built on the Isla de la Cartuja for
the '92 Expo, is highly rated
by Hotel Club users. The hotel's web
page will probably change address, so if that
link does not work, try the Barcelo chain's website,
but Hotel Club rates will almost certainly be much
cheaper. Uninspired blurb: "...built
in a modern architectural design arranged in three
asymmetrical towers with four floors each surrounded
by beautiful gardens."

This is different, to
say the least, a tenth-century country estate 12
miles from Seville, "painstakingly transformed
into a magnificent 5-Star Grand Luxe Hotel,"
and associated for the last two years with Spain's
most famous and prestigious luxury restaurant, El
Bulli, which has recently published a much sought
after book.
The hotel's website
suffers from poor legibility, but the rates it offers
may be better than the Hotel Club prices.

A "classic hotel
with a large bullfighting tradition," reflected
in its ambience, the Colon is very well located
and considered emblematic of Seville. I have not
been able to find its website, though its hotel
chain (now Sol Melía, not Tryp) has this
page, offering rates which can be competitive
with Hotel
Club's prices, so it is worth comparing.
* Many of the three-,
four- and five-star hotels included on these
pages belong to the Hotel Club online booking
service, of which this site is an affiliate,
and in this case I link to the Hotel Club
page. I do not want to give a sales spiel,
but the advantages for you are the convenience
of online booking and, in many cases, a
reduced rate. For example, the price for
a night in a double room in the 4-star Hotel
Mayorazgo in Madrid in September as given
on the hotel's
web page is €170 plus IVA (value-added
tax), whereas the rate advertised by Hotel
Club is €125, including tax. And
if you use the Hotel Club service, I get
a little commission which helps towards
the upkeep of this site.
If you have any complaints about the Hotel
Club service, I want to know about them
- e-mail me at complaints.
And if you have a gripe about your hotel,
by all means feel free to let me know, though
I am not in a position to do anything about
it.
