Bielsa
The tiny village of Bielsa is the main point of access to
Spanish Monte Perdido. In spite of its minuteness (348 inhabitants),
it has plenty of facilities for visitors - hotels, campsites,
restaurants... This otherwise excellent site is in Spanish
only - select "Servicios" for a list of establishments.
GR11
- from the Trail Database
'GR' refers to sendero de 'gran recorrido', long-distance
walk - GR11 apparently takes a week. The Trail Database is
a page maintained by a Dutchman named Henk Nouws with a tremendous
amount of information about hiking all over the world. Don't
miss the Trip Report itself, at the bottom of the index.
Monteperdido.com
A top-class, though Spanish-only site, with heaps of information
on the villages, flora, fauna and facilities of the Monte
Perdido National Park.
Ordesa
- Hiking (from worldbackpack.com)
A lively account from someone whose first language is not
English (...it is most beautiful valley) but who communicates
very well anyway.
Ordesa
- from LLBean
The information here is excellent, with great photos provided
by the Spanish Tourist Board: however, visiting the park in
winter is not recommended unless you are very professionally
equipped.
Ordesa
National Park - from GORP
A thorough description of the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National
Park in the Aragonese Pyrenees, the oldest nature reserve
in Spain.
Ordesa.net
The official website of the national park contains a tremendous
amount of indispensable information, unfortunately in Spanish
only.
Ordesa
- Photographs
Some splendid photographs of the Ordesa National Park.
Ordesa
- Three Days in Paradise
A weak title for a nice article, with gorgeous photographs,
about a mountain trek in the Ordesa National Park.
Ordesa
- from Tourspain
TourSpain's very dry account of this national park. Take heed
of the advice: these mountains can be dangerous.
Ordesa
- Spanish Ibex Extinct
Sad but true. The Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park was
actually founded to protect this species. The last example
was found dead last year (2000). (You should not let this
put you off going there, in many other ways it is doing very
well and is very beautiful.)
Spanish
Ibex Hunter
So how is he going to fill in his time now?
Ordesa,
the Spanish Version of Yosemite
There must be something about Ordesa which inspires people
to put word-processor to paper. By one Manfred Pfluegl, which
is the kind of name to induce breathless prose.
Ordesa
- from Wild Spain
A text-only bu graphic book extract.
Torla
- from AltoGallego.com
Torla provides access to both the Ordesa National Park and
the more commercial (winter sports) Alto Gallego valley. A
short page, in sloppy English, with some nice photographs
and snow falling across the page.
Torla
- from ordesa.net
A Spanish-only account of Torla, the most convenient access
point for the Ordesa National Park. Scroll down for a list
of accommodations.
World
Heritage Sites - Pyrénées - Mont Perdu
The Spanish Ordesa y Monte Perdido Parque Nacional is contiguous
with the French Mont Perdu Parc National, the two together
being considered a World Heritage Site.
